DEAR CUSTOMER

Delaware Elevator is writing our valued customers to inform you of the potential safety concerns regarding underground hydraulic cylinders, especially older underground hydraulic cylinders manufactured by suppliers who utilized single bulk head type cylinder bottoms.

It was common practice prior to the 1980's to manufacture single bottom hydraulic cylinders. A few tragic accidents have occurred with older hydraulic elevators, where the bottom of the cylinder gave way due to rust and electrolysis. Newer designs include double bottom cylinders protected with an applied extruded coating and PVC encasement systems to avoid leakage that could lead to catastrophic failure causing serious injury, death, and environmental contamination.

If you elevator was installed prior to 1980, our office should be contacted for a survey to assess the condition of your cylinder and to discuss replacement of any single bulk head type cylinders. If you have a single bottom cylinder, Delaware Elevator will recommend replacement immediately to insure that your elevator remains in safe operating condition now and in the future. Upon receipt of this letter please contact our office to schedule an appointment immediately. If you are an existing Delaware Elevator customer our Technicians are monitoring for fluid loss prevention regularly but in many cases this will not prevent failure of a single bulk head type cylinder.

Sincerely,
Delaware Elevator, Inc.
